Liverpool faced their first defeat at Anfield this season as they lost to West Ham by 0-3. This match was an absolute proof of the trend currently ongoing in the Premier League in which the away team scores more goals when compared to the home team. West Ham gave in their best to take away the game from the Reds comfortably.

The five key talking points from the game are:

5. Best Players

Sakho, Noble and Lanzini played from the forward position gracefully. Lanzini, the debutant scored a goal with an assist and was clearly the best player in the first half of the game.

In the second half, Ogbonna kept a close watch on Benteke and thereby decreasing the chances of Liverpool being a threat to the goal. Clyne had a better game with respect to the other team-mates.

4. Worst players

The performances of Lovern and Gomez were disappointing. Lovern’s mistakes cost his team a  goal scoring opportunity. Coutinho played well but his sloppy tackling skills deterred the hopes of the Reds to bounce back into the game.

3. Facts

West Ham won for the first time since 1963 at Anfield. Out of 37 Premier League games played so far, only 7 games have been won by the home teams.

Liverpool have lost 3 -0 at home in the opening five matches for the first time. With two red cards in the game, a total of five have been recorded as of Saturday.

2. Formation Failed

Liverpool played with the same line-up while West Ham started with Lanzani which boosted their confidence level. Liverpool changed tactics in the second half, but that too failed and didn’t seem like they will gain the control again.

1. Big Wins for West Ham

West Ham have now recorded two big wins; first against Arsenal on the opening day and came back to winning ways against Liverpool after their defeat to Bournemouth last weekend.

Liverpool will now face United on the 12th of next month and it would surely be a tough game without Coutinho, but with Sturridge likely to start and Henderson also recovering from a foot injury, the Reds can mend their ways and satisfy their fans once again.
