Arsenal announced that they have extended the contract of Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla. Theo Walcott is currently the longest serving player in the Gunners squad, having played more than 300 times and scoring 76 goals in the process.

Walcott had ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in the FA Cup third round match against Tottenham Hotspurs during the 2013/14 season. The 26-year-old made his return in November 2014, before starting his first match on January 4, 2015 in the FA Cup third round against Hull City. The England forward had a strong run of form towards the end of the season, scoring a hat trick against West Brom on the final Premier League match day, before opening the scoring in Arsenal’s 2015 FA Cup triumph over Aston Villa. Walcott’s current run of form will reinforce the fact that he will be a key player for Arsenal in the upcoming season and the club will be glad to have finally tied him down.

Walcott will now be one of the highest paid earners at the Gunners which have started to flex their financial muscle in recent years.

Santi Cazorla has been one Arsenal’s top players since his transfer from Malaga in 2012. The Spaniard has scored 27 and assisted 38 goals in 148 appearances for Arsenal since the 2012/13 season. Last season, the 30-year-old was one of their best performers and appeared in 53 matches scoring 8 times and assisting 15.

Both players are experienced internationals. Cazorla is a two time European Championship winner with Spain and has made 73 appearances for Spain. Walcott has made 40 appearances for England.

Arsene Wenger said: “We’re delighted to have extended the contracts of Santi and Theo. Both are top quality players who are hugely important and influential to our squad.

“As well as their huge contributions on the pitch, they both have a great deal of experience and are very popular off the pitch. We’re very pleased with them both signing contract extensions, as it provides our squad with further stability of quality.”
