The Asia Cup to be held in 2016 has been scheduled to be a contest between five of the top Asian cricketing nations.
This Cup is set to feature Asia’s biggest names in World Cricket- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The fifth team will be decided after a playoff between four ICC Associate nations – Afghanistan, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong.
Afghanistan, due to their dominant act in the Associate nation tournaments is the sought after team to make it to the Asia Cup. Nevertheless, it certainly will not be an effortless passage for them, judging them based on the recent performances of the other nations.
Afghanistan was also a part of the Asia Cup last time where they managed to upstage the Bangladesh Tigers. It will be interesting to see how the Associate teams cope with the task.
The Cup is scheduled to be held around March 1-10th just before the start of the World T20, which will be held in India. The format of the Cup will be similar to last year, featuring Round Robin followed by the main Draw.
