Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury are now going to confront each other for the third time. The rivalry between the two has heated up recently.
Wilder and Fury have met twice in the last couple of years. While the first meeting in December 2018 ended in a controversial split decision draw, Fury won the second clash just over a week ago. This intensified their rivalry as well as the speculations of a third fight between them.

Although many believed an immediate fight was very much a possibility, there were a few problems to it. It was to be a co-promotional event between ESPN and Top Rank making the negotiations difficult. However, Wilder has exercised his right to an immediate third fight and the fight has been scheduled to July 18.
“We realized that date was the favorite of both ESPN and Fox because it comes at a dead time in sports, which is good for the fight,” Top Rank chairman Bob Arum said as per ESPN. “It’s after the basketball playoffs, baseball is in the middle of the season and there’s no football. It’s the ideal time. The hotel, MGM Grand, also believes it to be an ideal time.”

The fight is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas- the same location that hosted their rematch in February. Arum admitted he has always believed a third fight was always on the cards after Wilder’s loss in the rematch.
“I figured he would do it because I have had enough experience with rematches to know that anything can happen and guys can change their strategy and want the opportunity to [avenge] the loss,” Arum said.
