Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has left the club by mutual consent. Garde becomes the seventh managerial casualty of the season and the second for Aston Villa in this season alone. Garde was appointed manager after Tim Sherwood’s sacking back in November. First team coach Eric Black will take over as his position until a new appointment is made.

The club released a statement that read:

“Rémi Garde has today left Aston Villa by mutual consent. The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Rémi for all his efforts during a difficult period and wish him well in the future.”

“Eric Black will take over as acting manager until the club appoints a new manager. There will be no further comment from the club at this stage.”

Garde, since his appointment, had only won two games out of the total twenty he took charge of. Villa are on a run of six consecutive defeats and host Chelsea on Saturday.

With Villa preparing for championship football next season, former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has emerged as the leading candidate for the job.
