Colby Covington Suffers Broken Jaw Against Kamaru Usman! Loses via Last Minute Knockout

Kamaru Usman knocked out Colby Covington at 4:10 minutes of the final round to defend the welterweight title.

Love him or hate him. Colby Covington just proved his mettle when he went one on one against the welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman. And what a fight it was. Two of the best welterweight in the world right now gave it all, but in the end, Kamaru Usman came out victorious.

Both Covington and Usman are two of the best wrestlers in the sport of MMA right now. However, neither of them shoot for any takedowns throughout the fight and decided to box each other till one break. The first two round was chaotic as Covington landed a huge amount of volume. On the other hand, Kamaru Usman was more efficient with his striking. The first two round was filled with some thrilling moment when one got the other one hurt.

What worked the best for Usman was his body shots. Throughout the fight, Usman was hurting Covington with his front kick and hooks to Colby’s body. The first two rounds were very competitive and going into the 3rd round nobody has any clue who was leading. However, what happened in the third round changed the complexion of the fight entirely.

Usman caught Colby with a vicious straight right hand which broke Colby’s jaw. The impact was very obvious as Covington slowed down in the third round and landed way fewer strikes compared to the first two. After the end of round 3, Colby informed his corner about his jaw.

This was the moment when Colby bit down the mouthpiece and went into the chaos again and had Usman hurt a couple of times in round 4. Although Usman was landing more strikes Colby was hurting him with some powerful strikes. Going into the 5th round, the fight could have been won by anyone if judged accurately.

However, Usman decided not to give the fight to the judges and finished the fight at 4:10 minutes of the final round. After the fight was stopped Colby started complaining about the early stoppage. However, he was hurt badly and he was not doing anything on the ground though he was holding onto Usman’s leg and covering up to avoid shots. In the end, it’s the referee’s call and he decided to stop the fight.

Though Usman won the fight fair and square it’s needless to say that the outcome of the fight would have been a lot different if Colby had not broken his jaw in round 3. However, this fight does open up a possibility for a mega rematch between two of the best welterweights of all time, Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman.
