Mercedes’ Team Principal Toto Wolff has built a dynasty with the Brackley-based outfit over the past decade. The team is getting ever closer to winning their 9th Constructors’ title, but Wolff’s future with the team beyond 2020 remains clouded in mystery. The Mercedes boss previously stated how draining the role is and has hinted at moving into a new role within the team.

However, following the race in Sochi, Wolff said a role change is not concrete. He may as well continue as Team Principal for the next year. But he’ll be making the final decision based on what’s best for the team’s future.

Wolff said, “I think I’m going to mix it up a little bit. What I always said is that you need to realize where the point comes from becoming very good to good. Because then you can’t contribute anymore to an organization’s performance.

Mercedes boss stresses on the team’s focus on developing talent

Wolff said, “We look at senior leaders and the potential of young ones coming up. We don’t want to create a bottleneck for talent to prosper and this is why far in advance we are already looking at every position.

“It doesn’t mean that I’m quitting as a team principal. But I’m looking ahead and saying, what could be my involvement further down the road.”

Having won 6 consecutive Constructors’ Championships, Wolff doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. Being the co-owner of the team, he could very well decide to focus on the other aspects of the racing business.

It would give him a chance to kick up his feet a bit. After all, chasing perfection the way Mercedes have is no easy task. Nevertheless, this is all only speculation at the moment and Wolff will be trackside for the foreseeable future.

The team’s focus would now shift to the Eifel Grand Prix, on the 11th of October. Another 1-2 finish in Germany would bring the Silver Arrows another step closer to a 9th title.
