Spanish and European champions FC Barcelona took on mid table outfits and wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 win courtesy of a Luis Suarez goal and another Neymar double, one of which was a treat to watch. Here are our 5 talking points from the game.

  • Barca look well prepared for the clasico

A few matches ago, defense was one of the major issues bothering Luis Enrique as the Catalans were conceding a pretty high number of goals during the initial matches of the season. But it seems that the Asturian’s tactics have changed things dramatically as Barca have now conceded only one goal in the last 6 matches keeping 5 clean sheets. The Blaugranas look well set for the first meeting of two of the biggest footballing rivals in the world this season as their midfield with the defense and the attack is perfectly clicking at the moment and Barca will fancy their chances if they continue this level of theirs.

  • Neymar and Suarez have been phenomenal for Barca

Barca are doing pretty well in the absence of their star forward Lionel Messi courtesy of the brilliant run of form of their other two superstars- Neymar de Silva and Luis Suarez. Both of them have scored the last 16 goals for the club sharing equal numbers among them. Specially, Neymar was at his brilliant best today as he lit the Camp Nou with some exquisite passes and the Ronaldinho-esque goal during the last minutes of the game. He is the current top scorer of the La Liga and is arguably the best player in the world at the moment.

  • Villarreal tried but eventually tired out

The yellow submarines started the match with some fiery pressing thus making things a little uncomfortable for the Catalans. Although, the hosts dominated much of the first half, yet it was their physicality and their pressing which was able to keep the score tied at 0-0. But such hard work was bound to tire their legs as ultimately Barca did break the deadlock. And when they finally did, the match took a one sided turn with some brilliant football from the men in red and blue.

  • Sergi Roberto has really been one of the surprises for Luis Enrique

Sergi Roberto has been one of the best performers for Barca in the recent matches as the Spaniard has been working and running tirelessly on the pitch making important tackles and creating goal-scoring chances.  It was he who caused the penalty for the Catalans in the last match against Bate and it was him again today as Barca were gifted the penalty for a foul made on Roberto inside the box. With his versatile display of footballing skills a.k.a. playing at right back, attacking mid, even at right wing, Enrique would be glad he trusted the La Masia youngster at the start of the season and persuaded him to stay when his departure looked eminent.

  • Sergio Busquets – The most in-form midfielder in the world at the moment

Sergio Busquets is one of the most fundamental elements of the Barca’s style of Tiki Taka. And the defensive midfielder has been producing some of the best football of his career for the Blaugranas as his contribution to the team has been absolutely marvelous. His positioning enables him to stop the opposition’s attacks even before they actually start. His tackles have been brilliant and if he continues to keep this form, Barca might fancy a bucket of silverware this season as well.
