However, some sources believe that Alonso is not in any hurry to decide his future. The Spaniard seems to be waiting for the right del to swing his way before putting pen to paper. According to reports, ‘Insiders fear that Alonso will wind the clock down in an attempt to get an even better deal from McLaren, featuring improved payments and less sponsorship commitments. The situation becomes increasingly more complicated as Alonso’s co-manager, former Renault chief, Flavio Briatore is overseeing the deal.’

The Spaniard said “You never know if it’s the good move or the bad move for the team, but if McLaren thought that it was time to split with Honda and go for Renault is because they have good information about next year. Hopefully that puts McLaren again in the places that all feel McLaren belongs, which is fighting for podiums and championships.” Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has confirmed that the Enstone team are working with McLaren and sharing data for the past few days. However, Alonso has yet to see the said data.

“As for McLaren, there will be better and worse tracks next year, but from here to March the cars are going to change dramatically, the projects are going to change dramatically, and we’ll have to see what expectations each team has.” he said.
