Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko admitted that he was disappointed with the Toro Rosso team’s return on investment. After the Red Bull team bought the Minardi team from Paul Stoddart at the end of the 2005 season. The offspring of that buyout was the Scuderia Toro Rosso team. Since then, the team has produced 1 victory in the 2008 Italian GP. Marko said “We bought the team because the regulations allowed the use of much the same chassis as another team. Then it was changed. A great investment was made in Toro Rosso but they cannot materialise that into points. The drivers and the team make mistakes, as well as technical failures. What this could mean for the Faenza-based team could be nothing but disaster. Who knows what would’ve happened to Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniil Kvyat had Red Bull had their way. Also, Pierre Gasly would have lost an opportunity to race in Formula One. We would also never have known if Carlos Sainz had had the chance to join Renault for the upcoming season. A Toro Rosso buyout would have had major implications in the driver market as it would mean 2 less seats in Formula One.
