While the Indian team became the first ever team to have played 900 One Day Internationals, they displayed a thoroughly professional performance in the first ODI of the India in Paytm Series. Right from the start, exploiting the swing and seam conditions, debutant Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav ran through New Zealand’s top order as they were reduced to 48-3, Umesh and Hardik taking 2 and 3 wickets respectively.

Although there was a fight back by the visitors through a 71-run stand between Tim Southee(55) and Tom Latham(79*), the innings was concluded for 190. India in reply were off to a solid start with a 49-run opening stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma. India chased the target within 34 overs comfortably, with Virat Kohli top scoring with 85 not out.

Pandya, who earlier received his ODI cap from Kapil Dev, was rewarded the Man of the match award for his impressive debut performance of 3 for 31. As India dominated in the first ODI, we take a look at the top tweets:
