The Coronavirus pandemic has made tennis players change the way they practice. With no matches played in over 5 months, practicing cautiously without getting injuries is key. Also, players have to safeguard themselves from the virus as well. So Serena Williams has adapted to this and made her own arrangements.
The Cincinnati Open beginning in 2 weeks and is one of the first important tournaments to begin. The tournament will be followed by the all-important US Open. So the time has come for the players to get proper on-court practice.

“Why haven’t I done this 20 years ago?” – Serena Williams
Serena in a press-conference talked about her gym and court. As there were strict lockdowns imposed in various parts of the world, Gyms and public courts were also closed. So Serena‘s husband built her a new gym and a court to practice during the lockdown.
She gave an update on the gym. The gym isn’t ready yet but the court is. This year the US Open had done the resurfacing of their courts and so to get familiar with the speed and bounce of the court Serena also had installed the same new surface which was installed in the US Open

“We built a tennis court and we built a gym. It’s so cool. The gym’s not quite done. The tennis court is so fun. I go there and it’s my own sanctuary. I’m like, ‘why haven’t I done this 20 years ago?’ We had a few players out there. I’m like, ‘this is the US Open surface, so come hit with me. I tried to get people to come.” Serena said

“Tennis is naturally a socially-distanced sport so it was kind of easy to go back and walk on my side of the court,” she added

Serena in the past 5 months has been very active on social media especially with her two-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. Both of them have been trying out different things fans and players have been entertained by it a lot. But now as tennis nears Serena’s focus will be to finally clinch her record 24th Grand Slam, which she has been trying to get for the past 3 years.
