Lin Dan-Lee Chong Wei Lose to Nehwal and Sindhu

Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu teaned up to beat Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei 5-4 in a doubles exhibition game. These players were a part of ‘The Legends Vision’ event which took place at the NSCI stadium on Saturday. Badminton fans in the city were treated to a spectacle. Legends like Pullela Gopichand, Prakash Padukone, Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Peter Gade and Lee Yong Dae took center stage. Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali Tendulkar also attended the event.

Apart from Saina and Sindhu, the other Indian shuttlers to take part in the exhibition event were Super Series champion and current world number 2 Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth.

Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei are fierce rivals in the singles competition. But they played as partners in this exhibition game. The game between all four superstars was dubbed the clash between Indian Tigress and The Lions.

There was a moment when Lee Chong tried to play his trademark smash. Unfortunately the Indian duo won the point. The rules stated that they were not allowed to hit ‘too hard’. In the end, Sindhu and Saina went on to clinch the game.

In the earlier game, Sindhu and Lin Dan took on Saina and Lee Chong Wei. The game was a close affair, but in the end, it was the combination of Lin Dan and Sindhu who won the match 9-8

Peter Gade and Lin Dan teamed up to take on Taufik Hidayat and Lee Chong Wei. More than 5000 spectators gathered to watch the legends. Seeing 40-year-old Gade’s energy on the court, stunned everyone. He attacked his opponents with some destructive shots. Lee Chang Wee also played some brutal shot. In the end, Taufik and Lee Chong Wei went on to beat Gade and Lin Dan 9-6.

Pullela Gopichand took on Peter Gade in a doubles match with upcoming badminton players partnering them. The game was a repeat of the 2001 All England Championships semifinals between the two.

Gade though had the better of Gopi this time around by beating him and his partner 9-4. During the game, Gopichand kept encouraging his rookie partner. He gave her more chance to showcase her skill despite her mistimed shots. Another highlight was a triples match. It was Sindhu, Srikanth and Hidayat on one side and HS Prannoy, Yong Dae and Nehwal on the other end
