As reported, the new tournament will be scheduled in the month of February by the WTA. The new move by WTA is suspected to be a righteous move as the second month of the year is considered to be a dead month for the WTA season. There are only 6 tournaments played in the February month of the WTA season compared to the 12 tournaments played on the ATP tour in February.

Tennis Australia CEO, Craig Tiley said in a statement, “It’s important for us to continually improve on the great tennis offering we have in Australia to ensure there are more opportunities for players, more opportunities for fans to get to see them in their home towns and more global exposure for our sport.”

It would be interesting to see how the Women’s Tennis Association manages the increase in the tournaments and how all the players will react to the changes in the schedule of the season from 2020. The Association should also decide upon the dates of the tournament as the schedule should not become hectic for the players.
