The Mahindra Formula E team have announced that they will be retaining Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld for the upcoming Formula E season. The Swede and the German played integral roles in the 2016-17 season where the Indian manufacturer recorded their best ever finish of 3rd. They recorded 10 podiums during the season which includes a maiden victory, a first for India.

Heidfeld has been in the sport since its inception but he was driving for the Leonardo DiCaprio-owned Venturi team. He also had a decent stint in Formula 1 where he achieved 13 podiums but the win always eluded him. Heidfeld joined the Indian manufacturer in the second season and in his very first race snatched a podium. It was a first for the team on an international stage. Mahindra finished 8th in the inaugural season, bettering it to 5th in Season 2.

The Swedish driver was a new recruit in the 2016-17 season. The former Formula 3 champion was on the pace straightaway. He took a podium in his second race for the Indian marquee. The big breakthrough came in the Berlin ePrix where Rosenqvist won the race and for the very first time, the Indian national anthem was played.

Team principal Dilbagh Gill said “We’re thrilled that both Nick and Felix will remain with Mahindra Racing next season. With them, we’re confident that our new race car, the M4Electro will prove to be our strongest yet and Mahindra will consistently be fighting at the front of the field for wins and championships.”

With every season, Mahindra have been going from strength to strength. Who knows, maybe they can even win the world championship.
