Manchester United’s recent business deal with Everton involving Morgan Schneiderlin has left a hole in United’s midfield but the Red Devils could be looking at the arrival of a new player namely Monaco’s midfield magician Tiemoue Bakayoko and Jose Mourinho has earmarked him as a top priority for this transfer season.

Bakayoko has been rated as one of the top 10s in Ligue 1 and has made a severe impact in and around the field. His ball-winning quality in the middle of the park is perhaps his strongest attribute. Only Benjamin Andre (126) has won possession in the midfield third more times than Bakayoko (90) in France’s top tier this season. His tackles and interceptions have also garnered praise from many players and managers in France.

As United begin preparations for Michael Carrick’s expected decision to call time on his career, Manchester United needs a strong player like Bakayoko who like any central midfielder can play a tidy game with minimal mistakes. Every game where Carrick has started, United has performed better and has yielded a favourable result which is something the United boss would like to carry on with.  While Carrick utilises his positional understanding to help save the day, United could take full advantage of Bakayoko’s energy in the middle to assist in defence.
