Earlier, there was a bit of a controversial incident during the Xfinity Series race. In the final couple of laps, Brandon Jones was leading from Ty Gibbs, when the second-place driver did a bump and run. Unfortunately, the bump was hard enough to spin Jones out of the race, handing the win to Gibbs.

However, it is worth mentioning that NASCAR elected not to hand out any penalties. Instead, they deemed it as the two drivers simply racing for the win, and was not intentional at all. They acknowledged that the move was aggressive, but not at all malicious, so they decided to consider it a racing incident.

How did fans react to the Ty Gibbs and Brandon Jones ruling?

Safe to say, a large number of fans were not too please at Gibbs getting away scot free. Many of them demanded that Jones should be granted a free pass for the next race. The worst part of the incident was that it effectively rules Jones out of Championship 4 contention. Furthermore, Ty Gibbs broke the unwritten rule about not crashing into your own teammate.

Other fans declared that if NASCAR was not going to punish these incidents, the drivers themselves will take vigilante action. In other words, any punishment meted out to Ty Gibbs, could come from his rivals, possibly Jones himself. A few people even said that if or when Ty Gibbs takes over the #18 Cup car, he might be in for a rude awakening.

This is largely because, if he deliberately takes out a Cup driver, they won’t hesitate to put him in his place. Others admitted that NASCAR taking a hands off approach was the right call. According to them, Brandon Jones deserved to deal out some sweet piping hot revenge. Few fans even predicted that Jones might not even help Ty Gibbs in his bid to win the Xfinity Series title in the season finale. At least NASCAR has a new controversy to talk about, replacing the Bubba Wallace-Kyle Larson one.
