MVP

The only other thing more ridiculous about Brodie’s Triple-Double stat-line is the fact that he still has his legs on! Russell Westbrook played the 82 regular season games with such unparalled explosiveness and tenacity, that he just had to win the MVP this year. His season average of 31 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists also earned him the title of NBA scoring champion for the second time in his career. Leading the OKC Thunder to a 47 win season, he’s also only the first player in many decades to win MVP accolades playing on a team outside of the top 3 seeds in the conference.

Defensive Player of the Year

Draymond “Money” Green has truly lived up to his nickname this season. After losing out on the DPOY Award for the last two seasons to Kawhi Leonard, Green finally took the award home this year beating Jazz Centre Rudy Gobert apart from Leonard. He averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the season and was the mastermind behind the second best defence in the league, very often switching to every player on the opposition team on a single possession. He also recorded a rare triple-double in points, rebounds and steals this season, something that really speaks for his all-around basketball ability.

Coach of the Year

Edging out coaches like Greg Popovich, Erik Spoelstra and Scott Brooks, Mike D’Antoni won the Coach of the Year award for the second time in his career. D’Antoni took a lowly ranked Rockets team from the bottom of the Western conference playoffs bracket to the 3rd seed out west. Rockets also broke the NBA record for most three-pointers made by a team in a single season, owing to their fast paced offence and some of the best shooters in the NBA.

Most Improved Player

There are not many players in NBA history who’ve carried their team to the playoffs in just their 4th year in league. The Greek Freak has truly blossomed under the tutelage of Head Coach Jason Kidd, who himself was a point god back in his day. He carried his team when Jabari Parker suffered a season ending injury, taking his game to a level that was not expected of him at such a young age. He also finished top 20 in every statistical category. Antetokounmpo is the future of the NBA and considering the pace at which he has improved, sky is the limit!

Sixth Man of the Year

Rockets Guard Eric Gordon won the sixth man of the year award on his impressive outside shooting forming a key part of the Houston offence. He made a total of 246 three-pointers this season.

Rookie of the Year

Malcolm Brogdon averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists for the season on his way to becoming Rookie of the Year. Brogdon beat big names such as Joel Embiid, Dario Saric and Buddy Hield. He was a key role player alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in taking the Milwaukee Bucks to the playoffs.
