Similarly, a luxury broker recently announced a private sale of its rarest collection of game-worn Air Jordans ever. Moreover, reportedly, the private sale is expected to fetch the seller in the ballpark of eight to nine figures.

However, leading all NBA players by a mile is the Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. The 5x MVP’s memorabilia has fetched more from auctions and private sales than any NBA player ever. 

Similarly, according to an article by Andscape, the luxury broker Sotheby’s has announced the private sale of its rarest collection of Air Jordans. Reportedly, the private sale will feature the six individual shoes — not complete pairs — all worn and autographed by the 6x Finals MVP on the night he won each of his six rings. Rightfully so, the collection has been dubbed the ‘Dynasty Collection’.

The list of specific shoes up for sale are, 

• an “Infrared” Air Jordan 6 (1991)
•  a “Charcoal” Air Jordan 7 (1992)
•  a “Playoffs” Air Jordan 8 (1993)
•  a “Bred” Air Jordan 11 (1996)
•  a “Playoffs” Air Jordan 12 (1997)
• a “Last Shot” Air Jordan 14 (1998)

While talking about the exclusive sale, Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles, declared, “This is the Mona Lisa of the sneaker collecting and sports memorabilia communities.” He further discussed how Sotheby’s recently launched a traveling exhibition in Dubai, with additional stops in Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, and more. 

Owner of the rare collection and the interesting tradition behind it 

Interestingly, it was revealed that the seller of the collection had opted for anonymity. But the origin of the sneakers can be traced back to the Bulls’ longtime director of communications. Reportedly, Jordan was spotted walking out of the United Center in one shoe after every Championship win; seemingly, it had become a tradition over those years. 

It turned out that the 14x All-Star always handed out an individual pair of his Finals-worn-autographed shoes to Hallman. Consequently, MJ can be seen sporting a single pair of Air Jordans in the most photographed images of the Championship celebrations. However, in light of the recent sale, Sotheby’s confirmed that Hallman was no longer in possession of the shoes, and the ownership has been transferred to the anonymous seller.
