Nick Kyrgios won his first title in Brisbane last week, defeating Ryan Harrison in the finals. The young Australian has put up a good display of tennis in the recent times, and has impressed spectators and players alike. Rod Laver, a former multi grand slam winner, thinks that the youngster has immense potential and could go on to win a grand slam, if not more, in the near future.  The Australian legend believes that if Kyrgios could get his head in the right place, he could go on to become one of the most decorated players in the history.

“The match I saw down in Brisbane was exceptionally strong. Mentally he was strong – he was able to push aside all the things that can bother him,” Laver said. “I saw some great tennis from him and his serving ability is uncanny – I think he’s got the best serve in the world. “It’s just a matter of putting it altogether and that’s not easy to do when you’re a young person and you’ve got a lot of things going on in your head. “That attitude has got to be taken out of his game program and just go out there and play the matches as they come.”

Nick Kyrgios was a set down in all three of his matches in the tournament. However, he put up a showcase of serving that saw him come back from the brink of defeat. Kyrgios will begin his Australian open campaign against Brazil’s Rogerio Dutra Silva next week in Melbourne. Kyrgios, as we all know, was the boys’ champion at the Australian open way back in 2013. Kyrgios has had a good start to the season and he will look to feed off the home support next week and hope for a deep run in to the tournament this year.
