Alexander Zverev has had a breakout year in 2017, reaching a career high in the ATP rankings. The German is currently the world number four, in the ATP singles rankings. Alexander Zverev is the younger of the two Zverev brothers, the other being Mischa Zverev. Both, Alexander Zverev and Mischa Zverev were invited to the ZDF SPORTS STUDIO on Saturday, to talk about the phenomenal year that they had. The brothers spoke about shifting their residences to Monte Carlo. Sacha was born in Hamburg while Mischa spent his early years in Russia. However, like many other top players (Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych, Borna Coric), the duo operate out of Monte Carlo. The reason they cited was-“better training conditions”.

Alexander Zverev praises Federer

Roger Federer has been an inspiration for many young players, and Alexander Zverev is no exception. The young German looks up to the Swiss maestro, and dreams about walking in his footsteps. “There’s no one ‘perfect’ in tennis, except maybe when we talk about Roger. You could say he is perfect.” Federer and Zverev have faced each other 5 times, and Federer holds a slender advantage in their head-to-head record (3-2).

Alexander Zvererv’s goals for 2018

The young German also spoke about his goals for 2018, as he looks to build on his strong start. Zverev aims to reach deeper into the grand slams next season. In 2017, Alexander Zverev, has not gone past the fourth round when it comes to the slams. “I’m the world number four now, therefore I hope to do better at the slams this year”, said Zverev. The 20-year-old German has never beaten a player ranked in the top 50, at any of the four grand slams. Zverev’s best result came at the Wimbledon, where he reached the fourth round.
