Novak Djokovic will be returning to the ATP circuit in Acapulco after a long lay off due to a shoulder injury. He will be playing his first tournament since early February, when he led Serbia to victory in the Davis cup. Novak Djokovic has only played eight matches so far in 2017, which also included a surprise loss to Dennis Istomin in the second round of the Australian open. He was scheduled to play in the Indian wells but pulled out of it citing a shoulder injury.

Tournament director Zurutuza said they offered Novak Djokovic a wild card, although he has never played in Acapulco before, and were glad when he accepted. Novak will be joined by six of the top ten players in Acapulco. It sure will be a star-studded line up as Novak will be joined by the likes of Miloss Raonic, Rafael Nadal, David Goffin, Dominic Theim, Marin Cilic, as well as a fresh Juan Martin Del potro. Also participating will be Nick Kyrgios, and big serving Ivo Karlovic.

Novak started of the year with a convincing win over Andy Murray in Doha, but later succumbed to an early loss in the second round of the Australian open, and will be looking to improve his 2017 record, as the clay court season kicks off. The tournament director was extremely pleased with the line up and said ” having Nadal, Raonic, Cilic, Djokovic, and Goffin makes us very proud, as there are just a handful of tournaments that can boast about having the six of the top ten players”. Novak Djokovic is currently on world number two, with 9825 points, and would like to close the gap on Andy Murray who is ahead of Novak with 11540 points, by looking to perform well in a tournament where he is playing for the first time.
