A second half brace from Thomas Muller and a header from Mario Gotze sealed a 3-0 win for Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Despite the scoreline, the record Bundesliga winners were far from convincing as Olympiakos Piraeus egged on by a 31,700 partisan home crowd put a determined and dogged performance.

After a goalless first half, Bayern opened the scoring through Muller, whose chip from the right flank was misjudged by goalkeeper Ricardo Costa and ended in the right corner. From there on, Pep Guardiola’s side created several chances but couldn’t convert any until substitute Mario Gotze headed home fellow sub Kingsley Coman’s cross. A minute later, Bayern earned a penalty when the latter was brought down in the box and Muller put it away in style, thus wrapping a 3-0 win.

The win marked Bayern’s first away win in its last four outings in the competition and Muller became the first German to score in eight consecutive Champions League seasons.
