Rafael Benitez’ first Champions League game in charge of Real Madrid went according to plans, as the Spanish giants beat Sha[tps_header][/tps_header]khtar Donetsk 4-0. Madrid took the lead in 30th minute, when Shakhtar keeper Andriy Pyatov made a terrible mistake, gifting Benzema the goal. Shakhtar midfielder Taras Stepanenko was sent off just after the restart when he picked up his second yellow due to a rash challenge on Sergio Ramos.

Real Madrid doubled their advantage through a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty, and another penalty from the Portuguese superstar made it 3-0. Ronaldo made it 4-0, completing yet another hat-trick with a tap-in header, after Pyatov had saved the initial shot from Marcelo. Here is our Player Ratings.

Was untroubled throughout the match, until the last minute of the game when he made a fantastic save to tip over a deflected shot.

Didn’t have an impressive game defensively, where the Spaniard made some errors. But was good in attack and provided several runs and crosses into the box.

Didn’t have to do much as Real Madrid dominated most of the attacks, but gave away possession dangerously inside his own half once. Was substituted at half-time due to injury.

The captain was having an easy outing until he got injured because of a rash challenge from Taras Stepanenko.

Had a good game, was good in attack, as his ferocious shot was responsible for Ronaldo’s third goal. Was solid in defence too.

Had an awesome game as he made several runs, and often dictated the play in the midfield. His vision was on display throughout the 90 minutes of the match.

The German played delightful passes in the Madrid midfield and was solid defensively.

The Welshman wasn’t at his very best as he gave away possession a few times, and was substituted early in the match due to an injury.

Another stellar performance from the young Spanish sensation, as he worked hard both in attack and defence, providing the assist for Benzema’s goal.

The Madrid superstar continued his good form from the last match, scoring yet another hat-trick. Played some delightful passes to Benzema, who was unable to convert them.

Scored the opening goal of the match, because of a goalkeeping error. Played well to create wonderful chances, but missed every one of them.

SUBSTITUTES

The young Croatian midfielder showed great potential since coming on for Bale in just the 31st minute of the game.

Replaced Varane at half-time because of an injury to the Frenchman, and was rock solid at the back.

Didn’t have anything to do except replacing the injured Ramos.
