As the transfer mills roll on, the possibility of the young Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea being transferred to Real Madrid grows stronger. Even with ex-Barcelona keeper, Victor Valdes being quite capable enough to take over his fellow Spaniard’s duties, Manchester United seem to have bought him just as a backup and haven’t shown much intent to play him as a first keeper, if the rumours about the club searching for keepers are to be kept in context. Even though the Red Devils want to hang on De Gea with them  offering him a lucrative new deal, his move to Los Blancos seems imminent.  We bring to you the goalkeepers who are ahead in the race for replacing  him, next season.

1. Jan Oblak

The strongest and possibly the most realistic of them all. Manchester United are rumoured to have contacted De Gea’s former club, Atlético Madrid in a pursuit to land their keeper, Jan Oblak. Another youngster, like De Gea was when he joined the Manchester team, the 22-year old Slovakian has had a very good season, and maybe caught the eyes of the manager, Louis van Gaal. Atlético Madrid signed him from Benfica last year for £12.6 million, making him the 8th most costliest goalkeeper of all time, and the costliest keeper in La Liga’s history. As a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who returned to Chelsea after his 2 year loan ended, he has been quite good with his hands. Although he would require a little bit of work and sweat out in the training grounds, he can be a good replacement for his fellow Spaniard.

2. Jasper Cillessen

Another club whom Manchester United have been reportedly contacting for a keeper has been Ajax, asking for their keeper, Jasper Cillessen. With their Dutch boss, Louis van Gaal showing his expertise in signing Dutch players, it seems a good and a strong possibility. This was hinted by Hoek, who is a close confidant of the United manager, having worked with him all through Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and with Holland. He also has a knack of spotting talents, as he has worked with Edwin van der Sar, Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes and Vitor Baia. He also persuaded LvG to hand the 26-year old Cillessen his first national cap for the Dutch side, as a replacement to Tim Krul.

Frank de Boer, the manager of Ajax, is a close friend of the United manager and if the transfer were to take place, it would be hassle free.

3. Hugo Lloris

Premier League keepers can’t be left unattended to if rumours are to fly around. Hugo Lloris, the Tottenham Hotspur keeper was seen hinting a move to the Manchester club recently, as he had been consistently linked to move away from the London club. The France national is hopeful for a place in the Red Devils side. He was quoted saying “For the moment there is a goalkeeper at United and we are watchful of his situation, ” to Telefoot.

“You have to keep a certain calm with all this. If things should happen then they’ll happen naturally.” Just like De Gea, Llloris is considered one of the best keepers in the present Premier League and can be a valuable asset to them.

4. Petr Čech

Petr Čech, the Chelsea’s special goalkeeper who has been now slowly been replaced by the Belgian keeper Courtois, has been pushed to the sidelines after 11 years of service to the Blues. After 4 PL titles, 4 FA  cups, 3 league cups, the Champions League and the Europa League, he wants to seek a new club to play for. His agent, Kolar spoke to Czech journalist Karel Haring from Sport, who revealed on Twitter that the 32-year-old goalkeeper would like to join Manchester United, Arsenal or PSG at the end of this season. Also, Beşiktaş are also rumoured to be interested in the 33 year old. Although he wouldn’t really be a possible replacement for De Gea, considering his age and the investment returns on buying him, we never know!
