The match was highly anticipated as both players were playing some of their best tennis coming into the finals. However, the match failed to live up to it high expectations as Nick Kyrgios self-destructed. A wrong call by the linesman in the very first game, denied him a break. You would expect a player of his caliber to put that out of his mind and Continue playing. But Kyrgios kept mumbling and looked to be mulling over the missed opportunity to break.

He was warned for obscene language. After Nadal broke him, he threw his racket in anger. Kyrgios will have to be patient and mentally strong, if he is to put up good performances against the very best in the world.

Kyrgios said “He played well. I played terrible. He’s in great form. He just destroyed me today, so it was too good. I put in a pretty good week, had some good wins. It’s tough to find positives when you won three games in the final. But I guess there were positives. In the semi-final I played well, obviously beating Alex [Zverev].”

Kyrgios, is still in contention to appear in his first ever appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals, moving up to the 15 position in the singles rankings. As far as Rafael Nadal is concerned, he will feature in the Shanghai open next, where he could meet Roger Federer in the finals of the tournament.
