India head coach Ravi Shastri has commented on the future of MS Dhoni. He said Dhoni’s future depends on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Moreover, the head coach of Indian team also said Dhoni may clear the air on his retirement after IPL.

Former India captain MS Dhoni made himself unavailable for selection following the ICC World Cup 2019. He missed the home series against West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and recently Australia as well. However, he started preparation for the upcoming IPL recently with Jharkhand’s Ranji team.

On the other hand, Ravi Shastri, in a recent interview with Sportstar, shared that the IPL 2020 can be crucial for deciding Dhoni’s future. It is already known that his return to the T20I side will depend on how his IPL season goes, but the coach also said that if Dhoni ‘doesn’t feel good’ in the IPL, he might announce his retirement.

“Exactly what I wanted to ask you. There is an IPL coming. Uske baad tum Dekho. Everyone will know. (Then you’ll see. Everyone will know) He will know, selectors will know, the captain will know to see him, and more important than anything else he will know. What I’m trying to tell the people is he is the last person to impose himself on anything. You know him. I know him,” said Shastri.

Shastri also said Dhoni knows pretty well what to do and when. He also gave the example of his retirement from test cricket as Dhoni is not someone “who will impose on himself”.

Most recently, BCCI also dropped him from the contract list. Amongst all these, he has started training where his batting impressed Jharkhand coach Rajiv Kumar. He came to bat for the first time ever since India’s exit from the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand in July last year.

Former BCCI president and the current vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements (owners of CSK), N Srinivasan has confirmed that MS Dhoni will play for the same team in 2021 also.
