Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens to Return to Action at New WTA Event

In the revised 2020 WTA calendar, the Citi Open was canceled and replaced by two other events. One of those events was the Top Seed Open, which is going to be played in Kentucky. It has now been confirmed that many top players like Serena Williams will be playing the event.

Serena Williams And Others To Play The Top Seed Open

As you can see in the above Twitter post, Serena Williams is confirmed to be playing this event. Everyone in Kentucky is definitely going to be excited as one of the best tennis players in the world is playing the inaugural event.

While it is great to see Serena playing the event, she is not the only top player participating. 2017 US Open Champion, Sloane Stephens will join Williams. This was revealed in another Twitter post by the Top Seed Tennis Club.

Clearly, there are many top players who are signing up for the event in Kentucky. This is probably because of the scheduling of the event. The Top Seed Open is going to be played between August 10th-16, which is just 15 days before one of the biggest events in tennis – the US Open.

Players have been starved of all opportunities to play professional tennis due to the coronavirus pandemic. They need events like the Top Seed Open to help prepare themselves for the US Open and the rest of the WTA calendar, which is a very grueling schedule.

Right now, Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens are probably training for the Top Seed Open. Every tennis fan is waiting to see them return to action after so many months. Hopefully, they will do really well there and also do well on the rest of the 2020 WTA Tour.
