Serena Williams Confirms Participation at the US Open

Serena Williams has announced that she will be taking part in this year’s US Open. The former World No.1 has given a huge boost to the USTA and US Open organizers as many other stars were skeptical about whether to attend or not.

Serena is onboard with the US Open and trusts the organizers for a safe tournament.

“I cannot wait to return to New York and play the US Open. I feel like USTA is going to do an amazing job making sure everything is safe. I’ll certainly miss the crowd and hearing them cheer, but this is crazy, I’m excited” said Serena Williams.

Many players were not ready to play in the US because of the strict rules. World number one Novak Djokovic called the rules harsh while Rafael Nadal didn’t want to take any risk to travel to New York. But with the new rules players are allowed to have more than one person accompanying them in their coaching team. This could tip some big players coming for the US Open. The US Open also announced earlier that all the matches will take place behind closed doors.

Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena coach recently said that she would love to play the US Open.

“Serena would love to play at the US Open,” said Patrick 

“For a player to be out of competition is extremely difficult. So the US Open will be the first opportunity to win one,” he added

“We recognize the tremendous responsibility of hosting one of the first global sporting events in these challenging sines, and we will do so in the safest manner possible, mitigating all potential risks,” said Mike Dowse, USTA Chief Executive Officer, and Executive Director speaking on safety and precaution for the US Open.
