The 2022 Masters is the most awaited event on this year’s calendar - it begins the first week of April at Augusta National. Recently, Augusta’s chairperson Fred Ridley announced the three honorary starters who will commemorate and commence the event with their tee shots. Who are they?
Jack Nicklaus is an obvious choice, considering he has the most Masters title in history. Nicklaus has won at Augusta six times in his career is is no stranger to the honorary starter role.
Three-time Masters winner Gary Player became an honorary starter in 2012 and has been taking the ceremonial tee shot every year possible. Nicklaus and Player are two of the most celebrated golfers in history.
Tom Watson
In what came out as delightful news, the two-time champion at Augusta, Tom Watson was picked as an honorary starter for 2022 Masters alongside Nicklaus and Player. Golf fans are thrilled with the new announcement.
Who completed the lineup last year?
For the 2021 Masters, it was Nicklaus, Player, and Lee Elder. Unfortunately, Elder passed away in November 2021, thus forcing Watson to come in as a replacement.
