Roger Federer, Marin Cilic and Juan Martin Del Potro are all through to the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors Basel. All three of them had to battle it out in three sets though. Homeboy Federer dropped the first set of the tournament, as he came from behind to defeat Adrian Mannarino (4-6, 6-1, 6-3). Federer said “Today was a battle. I had to somehow dig and fight and sometimes these wins are more rewarding than just leading from the get-go and dominating throughout and bringing it home. These are better matches to win sometimes, actually. I just had a tough time really getting into it and he was rock solid, so he deserved that first set, but the reaction from me was really important.”

The stage is set for the semis, and the players will know that there is much more at stake here than a final of the Basel open. Del Potro will need to win the title in Basel to secure his spot in the ATP finals. Federer will have to win the title if he targets to close in the gap between his friend and foe Rafael Nadal.
