As a point guard in his senior year at Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, he racked up a few good performances, earning him a place in ?Oklahoma Coaches Association "Large West" All-State Team and?The Oklahoman's Super 5 first team.
He played four years of college basketball?for the?Tennessee Volunteers. In 2015, he earned first-team all-conference honors in the?Southeastern Conference?(SEC) as a senior.
