Louis van Gaal has stated his stance on the idea of a new European Super League in his pre-match press conference before the game against West Bromwich Albion. He also added his thoughts on the Champions League saying he thinks it should be limited to the title winners of each country.

“Everybody knows, when you follow my career, that I am against all the super leagues and things like that,” he said.

On the subject of the Champions League, he said: “It has to be between champions in my opinion. I said that 20 years ago and I say it now again.

“I think sport is to win, not to be second or third.”
