Vettel and Hamilton Exchange Helmets as Mark of Respect

Lewis Hamilton romped to victory at the Abu Dhabi GP with Sebastian Vettel in 2nd. The two have been duking it out for the championship all season until the Briton took his 5th title. Finally, after the season finale in Abu Dhabi, he and Hamilton both exchanged helmets as a mark of respect between the two.

This is the first time anything of this sort has been attempted in Formula One. According to Hamilton, a helmet swap is regarded as the highest form of respect. He compared the act to the jersey swap that is done in football.

After a handshake, the two officially swapped helmets and congratulated each other. Vettel said, “Five championships is a great achievement and I hope I stop you from getting more.”

Hamilton replied, “That’s the name of the game.”

He then said that Vettel had a small head and he wouldn’t be able use the helmet.

Lewis also pointed out that Vettel would be able to wear his helmet, to which, the German said that he could go in disguise. Finally, they thanked each other and wished each other the best in 2019.
