Watch: When Jon Jones Almost Lost the Fight Via a Nasty Submission

We have all seen Jon Jones triumph over some of the finest athletes in UFC. He is the current UFC light heavyweight champion of the world. Jones is undefeated in his MMA career. He has fought 21 times inside the UFC octagon, and no light heavyweight has been able to submit or finish Jon Jones.

He does have a black mark on his impeccable record. Jones suffered a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill in his fourth UFC fight back in Dec. 2009. Since then, he has secured 17 straight victories. Jones’ win against Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight title ended in a No Result after post-match tests revealed that Jones tested positive for turinabol.

Despite everything that has gone into making Jon Jones into what he is today, he is still one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. Jones defended his heavyweight title against Thiago Santos at UFC 239, where he won via split decision. The way of victory may suggest that Jones had a tough fight. However, he looked comfortable in his win against Santos.

Jon Jones almost taps out

Back at UFC 152 when Jones almost lost the fight via submission. In a match against former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort, Jon Jones almost submitted to an armbar in the first round.

After winning the UFC light heavyweight championship, Jon Jones successfully defended his title belt against the likes of Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, and Lyoto Machida. The former light heavyweight championship faced Jon Jones in his fourth title defense.

Jones was doing exceptionally well and had Belfort on his back. However, in the scuffle of trying to escape from the punches Jones was throwing, Belfort used the position to lock Jones’ arm. In what could have been one of the biggest upsets of Jones’ relatively fresh but dominating career, Jones overcame the submission maneuver. Watch Full Fight Here

Jones used his strength to pull Belfort off the ground to push his legs around his hands. Similarly, he created space and height and managed to use his power to brush past Belfort’s hold. Additionally, Jones would go onto perform the submission move Americana for the victory in the fourth round.
