Just 3 of the top 10 seeds remain in the women’s section as Caroline Wozniacki became the latest star upset at Flushing Meadows.

Czech Petra Cetkovska beat the last year’s finalist 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(1) in about three hours of spectacular tennis.

Petra hit 61 winners, 60 unforced errors and was pouncing on even the slightest of chances, ferociously attacking from the baseline. The Czech saved four match points, hitting winners on every single one of them to demolish the hopes of the fourth-seed Wozniacki.

“On those match points I just was thinking that I have to be more aggressive, it has to be me who has to take the game; otherwise it’s over,” said the Czech. “To get this win, in front of this crowd, it’s sensational.” she added.

Five time champion Roger Federer was in cruise mood as he made light work of Steve Darcis- a win that included a half volley return of the second serve!

A 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 win, wrapped up this tennis class for the Belgian. Federer was ruthless on his serve, winning 91 per cent on first serve points in the opening set.

“It was pretty on the easier side, so I was able to mix it up, was attacking, was also staying back some. I was pretty much all-out attack as much as I could,” said Federer.

Federer will now face no. 29 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round.

Meanwhile Andy Murray battled from two sets to love down and registered a comeback to beat Adrian Mannarino 5-7, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1.

“I’ve come through many tough matches in my career and I think that’s why, when you are behind like that in the scoreline, you have the belief that you can come through and do it again,” said Murray.
