Indian tennis player Saketh Myneni has made it to the main draw of the US Open. The No.2 Indian player defeated Serbia’s Pedja Krstin 6-3, 6-0 in the third round of US Open qualifying in order to advance to the main draw of the US Open. It also marks the first time Saketh has qualified for the main draw of a tour level event. This also marks his first Grand Slam appearance.
The last Indian Player to make an appearance in the Main Draw of a Grand Slam was Yuki Bhambri, who bowed out in the first round of the 2015 Australian Open to two time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray.
Saketh will face World No.48 Jiri Vesely in the first round of the tournament. Vesely has had decent success this year, with a win over World No.1 Novak Djokovic at the Monte Carlo Masters. A win against Vesely means that he could face Djokovic in the second round.
Saketh, currently ranked World No.143, has had decent success in ITF Futures events and ATP Challenger events. He possesses an excellent Doubles record. He has also represented India in Davis Cup Ties. His biggest success was when he won Gold and Silver Medals at the 2014 Asian Games in the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles respectively.
