“This team, the boys, the staff, we gave him everything. We were always there for him. Ofcourse I am feeling let down and angry. I am disappointed. I can understand that the players are being tapped up by clubs. He is not the first or the last, but the team gave him everything.
I have to look after my team who are very committed. I cannot let it happen. No way. Until he changes his attitude he is out of the team and he’s not going to train with us.
But we are not going to sell him, not whatsoever. I expect him to come back and show commitment and determination to the team, like the team has shown to him”
A very frustrated Slaven Bilic faced the media talking about the star man of his Westham side who are experiencing an ultimate roller-coaster ride. From finishing 7th in the league and troubling most teams with their style of play and earning a Europa third round qualifying spot to now facing blows on and off the field, Westham are having contrasting fortunes since their migration to their new home stadium.
The latest and their biggest head-ache at the moment is regarding their star French frontman Dimitri Payet who has said that he wants to leave the club in the transfer window. West Ham United and Slaven Bilic has not welcomed this decision by the Frenchman and has refused to sell the player. The transfer status of Payet has always been an area of interest for many big clubs who watched the player dominate defenses in the Premier league, followed by an impressive Euro 2016 campaign. But Payet had signed a five-year contact worth £125,000 a week last year and had come out and said that he would continue at the London side. However, the transfer request has come out as a big let down for the London club who are having enough problems with their on-field results and performances.
The situation has gone out of hand and Bilic has said that Payet has now refused to train or play with his side. Westham are also set to fine him every fortnight he refuses to play and are not having any intention to let the player go away easily.
The news has attracted eyes from all across Europe with several big clubs keenly waiting on the status. News came out that Payet wants a return to Marseille for ‘personal reasons’. Westham signed Payet from Marseille for £10.7 million. But as Bilic mentioned, West Ham are having no intentions to agree on letting their star player leave the club easily. However with such a big name at the centre of the talk and many big clubs coming after, it will be interesting to wait and see how Westham will handle the situation or will they have to surrender to the pressure of letting him go.
The latest happenings have come out that Chelsea manager who had to stop his pursuit of Arturo Vidal has now shown interest in Payet. Chelsea have recieved massive financial boosts following their transfers of Oscar and Obi-Mikel to the high paying Chineese league. Conte looks all set to splash the cash with what might be a £40 million bid for the Frenchman. Conte might not be alone in this as Real Madrid and Manchester United have shown an interest in signing the midfielder earlier.
Tough times are ahead for the Hammers and Slaven Bilic who seemed to be building a unit around the French star. Well as for the Premier League, neutral fans who had high regards for Payet might be hoping to see more of the player who indeed has talent and skill in abundance. We hope that we don’t get to witness another Berahino-like story.
