The 2019 Spanish GP is set to take place on the 12th of May with Mercedes aiming for a 5th consecutive 1-2. Now, with the 25th anniversary of the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, the venue will be paying tribute to the two.

According to sources, the Brazilian and Austrian flags will be present at weekend and could be waved on the podium. When Roland Ratzenberger passed away during the qualifying session in Imola, Ayrton Senna planned to pay tribute to him on this day 25 years ago.

As it turns out, after Senna died, the team discovered a folded Austrian flag in his cockpit. According to the Williams F1 team, Senna planned to brandish the Austrian flag after the race. Now, Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger’s memories are still being kept alive after 25 years.

In all honesty, it was gratifying to see that Ratzenberger was not forgotten inspite of the legendary status of Senna. In fact, it is easy to place the Brazilian on a pedestal while Ratzenberger fades away from the limelight.

At the time of their deaths, Senna was 34 years old while Ratzenberger was 33 years old. Had they lived, they would have been 57 and 59-years old today.
