5 things you didn’t know about Agnieszka Radwańska

‘Aga’ Radwanska is the female Federer when it comes to variety in shot making. She plays the overhead backhand, squat shots, disguised drop shot and even the tweener with class.

As a junior, she won the 2005 Wimbledon and the 2006 French Open.

In 2012, she made it to the final round of the Wimbledon singles draw, making her the first Polish woman in the Open era to advance that far in a Grand Slam, before succumbing to Serena Williams 1-6, 7-5, 2-6. Achieving this feat, she rose to an all-time career high ranking of no.2.

She is also the first polish player to win a WTA Singles title at Sweden in 2007. In 2015, she once again became the first Pole to win WTA Finals in Singapore by beating Petra Kvitova in the finals.

Here are the 5 things which you might have probably missed out about Agnieszka Radwańska.


Radwańska was involved in a bitter controversy in 2013 for posing nude for ESPN’s magazine ‘The Body Issue’, following which she was dropped from a Catholic group, ‘Youth Crusade’ that she was a part of earlier. The group considered her act as ‘immoral’.

Her two year younger sister, Urszula Radwańska is also a professional player. Together they won a doubles title           at the 2007 İstanbul Cup. In their first match against each other, the younger sister won in straight sets.

She was coached briefly by Martina Navratilova in 2014. The partnership didn’t last long after Navratilova                     stated that she was too busy to continue in her part-time role as the consulting coach.

She is nicknamed as ‘The Professor’, ‘Ninja’ and ‘Lady Aga’ among fellow players. She considers Lady Aga as her favourite.


She has won the WTA’s most popular player for four consecutive years (2011–2014), the most by any woman, in polls held by WTATennis.com.
