5. Saina Nehwal (Badminton)
Every sport has a player that stands out in the circuit, for not only his/her performances but also for the attitude with which they play their sport.
Rahul Dravid, a personification of calmness and a wall of support for Indian Cricket, is an emblem of true sportsmanship. So is, the prodigal child of Indian badminton, Saina Nehwal.
She is a ferocious fighter on court who is known for never giving up. Her performance at the London Olympics only proved that she has nerves of steel, much like Rahul Dravid’s, who was a wall on the cricket pitch.
In his illustrious career, he also captained the Indian Cricket team. Saina too, took over as captain of the Indian Badminton Team at the 2014 Uber Cup and led them to a Semi Final finish.
While Rahul Dravid has been awarded the ICC Cricketer of the year and the Test Cricketer of the year in the inaugural awards, Saina is a Common Wealth Games Gold Medalist, BWF World Championships 2015 Silver Medalist and has also been World number 1 in BWF world rankings.
With a positive attitude on the court to a helping attitude off the court , Saina has lent a helping hand to numerous NGOs by participating in their programs and also donating whenever required.
Just like Rahul Dravid marked the beginning of a new era in Indian Cricket , Saina Nehwal ignited a fire in the Indian Badminton scene by becoming the first player ever from India to win a Super Series tournament .
