US Open resumption news was a disappointment for the Wheelchair tennis players as the USTA decided to remove wheelchair tennis, mixed doubles, and qualifying. Dylan Alcott, the top-ranked wheelchair tennis player raised his voice against this discrimination and so players like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray raised the issue and supported Wheelchair tennis. And finally, the USTA issued a statement and reinstated the wheelchair tennis for the 2020 edition.
“The USTA today announced that the 2020 US Open Wheelchair Tennis Competition will be held September 10 – 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY its traditional place on the US Open calendar,” USTA said in a statement.

Dylan Alcott couldn’t hide his joy. Dylan Alcott is the World No.1 in wheelchair tennis. He tweeted about the issue and was visibly happy with the decision.
“This is a massive sign of progress for our community, and I appreciate all your help. I know a lot is going on in the world at the moment, and the tournament might not even go ahead, but at least now we have the same rights as our able-bodied counterparts.” He tweeted.
Alcott was overwhelmed with the support from Federer and Murray for wheelchair tennis. He praised especially Murray with whom he talked on the phone and Murray was very pleased to support the wheelchair players.

“Also a special big thanks to Andy Murray, who led the charge with help from Roger Federer and a bunch of top 20 men’s and women’s players who lobbied internally to help get us there. To have the support of the best in the world was huge,” he said in the tweet.
