“A Difficult Year”: Petra Kvitova Calls off 2020 Tennis Season

World No.8 Petra Kvitova has announced that she will not participate in any other tournaments in 2020. The French Open 2020 was the last tournament she played this year, going all the way to the semis.

She informed her fans by writing a message on Twitter. Now, the Czech tennis player will be seen in action in 2021.

“It’s the end of my 2020 season. It has been a difficult year for everyone and we can only hope that 2021 will be better,” wrote the 30-year-old on Twitter.

In a couple of tweets, she also thanked her fans for supporting her throughout the year. She revealed that she learned a lot of things in the year and was now excited about her journey in 2021.

“I wanted to say a big thank you to you all. I have learned many new things from it. It has helped change our perspective and realize what is important in our lives. Can’t wait to see you all in 2021. I’m excited for what’s ahead,” concluded Kvitova.

2020 was a fairly decent year for Kvitova. She managed to reach the quarters of the Australian Open 2020 but lost to World No.1 Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.

She took revenge on Barty by defeating her in the semis of the Qatar Open 2020. But, she couldn’t keep her calm in the finals of the tournament where Aryna Sabalenka thrashed her in straight sets.

Wimbledon 2020 couldn’t take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s surely her favorite tournament as both of her Grand Slam triumphs have come on Wimbledon’s grass court.

When tennis resumed after the long break, she played some great tennis at the US Open 2020. However, she lost to Shelby Rogers in the Round of 16 stage in a close contest. She didn’t take part in the Italian Open 2020 and tried her luck at the French Open 2020.

Surprising all her critics, she was dominant in the tournament until she faced Sofia Kenin in the semi-finals. Before that match, she had not lost a set. Unfortunately, Kenin defeated her in straight sets, denying her the opportunity to play her first French Open final.

Kvitova has decided not to play any other tournaments before 2021. She will surely eye the Australian Open title early next year. It is still 3 months away, and fans definitely expect Kvitova to bounce back in 2021.
