Abate signs a new AC Milan deal until 2019

AC Milan defender Ignazio Abate says he is proud to have committed the rest of his career to the Italian club as he signed a new contract which will end by 2019.

The Rossoneries announced the new deal with a brief message on their website.

“AC Milan announces that Ignazio Abate has extended his contract until June 30, 2019,” said the message.

Abate has been with AC Milan since 2009, when he joined from Torino for almost €2.5 million. He was a youth player for the club earlier, as he some spent some time on loan with Empoli before spending a season in Turin.

The 28-year old has 22 caps for his national side, Italy. He was restricted to just 23 appearances for the Milanese club last season due to injuries but has expressed his happiness with the new contract which enables him to play for the club till 2019.

The player is delighted with the new contract and is looking forward to his future with the club. “This signature fills me with pride,” he wrote on Twitter. “10 years of AC Milan, honoured day after day. Rossonero forever. Thanks AC Milan.”

Abate will be 32 when his new contract expires.
