AEW President Tony Khan Reportedly Spent $40M Out of His $7B Net Worth to Buy ROH

In a surprising turn of events, AEW CEO Tony Khan bought the legendary Indy promotion, Ring of Honor (ROH). Appearing on tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite on the TBS network, Khan took the center stage and announced this big news.

Back in 2021, ROH took a lengthy hiatus and closed all their wrestling shows, and sent their wrestlers back to their homes. However, since then, the news of ROH looking for buyers surfaced in the pro-wrestling market. Eventually, the AEW President saw the opportunity and nailed it perfectly.

Now the fans are excited to see how the new owner of ROH will ‘honor’ the legacy of the wrestling promotion who produced today’s superstars like CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Seth Rollins, Adam Cole, and many more.

Who is the owner of ROH Wrestling?

Well, the new owner of Ring of Honor is Tony Khan. However, ROH was founded by Rob Feinstein on February 23, 2002. Soon after that, Cary Silkin took the charge of the company and became its owner.

Under Silkin’s supervision, ROH became one of the most prolific wrestling promotions just below Vince McMahon‘s WWE. Silkin brought the promotion out of the US and also did multiple shows in the United Kingdom and Japan.

Cary was in charge of the company from 2004 up until 2011. After Silkin, the promotion was sold to Sinclair Broadcast Group. Eventually, in 2022, the Sinclair Broadcast Group sold the company to Tony Khan.

Currently, Khan is the owner of two different wrestling promotions – AEW and ROH. Now, it will be interesting to see how the AEW President will manage the current ROH Champions and how AEW and ROH will collaborate.

For weeks, Khan teased a ‘massive update’. Now, the fans know what this massive update was. However, this deal between Tony and Sinclair Broadcast Group was tightly lipped and even the staff/wrestlers were not aware of this deal.

It is reported that Khan paid somewhere between $30-40 million to gain all the assets of ROH. However, the exact number is yet to be revealed by the owner of AEW.

According to WealthyPersons, the CEO, co-owner, president of AEW is worth a whopping $7 billion. The avid pro-wrestling fan is not just an owner of two wrestling promotions.

Alongside his father, Shahid Khan, Tony is also the co-owner of the NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. The AEW President is also the co-owner and Vice Chairman/Director of Football Operations of the soccer team, Fulham F.C.

Surely all these business ventures of the Khan family have helped Tony to reach such a massive net worth. However, he is leaps ahead of WWE’s Vince McMahon in terms of net worth.
