Alexander Zverev Passes Matteo Berrettini Test, Daniil Mededev Next for Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 Title

World No. 6 Alexander Zverev cruises past the 11th seed Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019. With this victory, Zverev reaches his first ATP Masters 1000 finals of the 2019 season.

Set one

Alexander Zverev started the match on a high note as he held a comfortable opening service game and started to trouble Matteo Berrettini from his first service game of the match, forcing him to hold his serve after a deuce.

The German continued his dominance in the match as he broke the Italian in his next service game. On the other hand, Alexander Zverev was playing one of the best device games of his career. The 22-year-old went onto close the first set 6-3 in just over half an hour, losing only two points in his five serve games.

Set two

Matteo Berrettini raised his level in the next set as he held hi service games strongly without facing a single breakpoint in his first four service games of the set. However, at 4-all, Zverev changed gears and earned three break breakpoints on Berrettini’s serve. However, the Italian responded well to be the three break points before he was broken for the second time in the match.

Zverev then mad no mistakes while serving for the match as he secured the set 6-4 and won the match in just 1 hour and 8 minutes.

He will face the No.3 seed Daniil Medvedev in the title match of the 2019 Shanghai Masters 1000 event. Furthermore, a new champion will be decided in Shanghai as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Nikolay Davidenko shared the last 10 Shanghai Masters title since the event’s commencement in 2009.
