Fresh from being sacked at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has rejected a move to coach AC Milan, a team he managed for 8 seasons, between 2001 and 2009.

After a disappointing season with Real Madrid, Ancelotti was sacked and the 55-year old Italian said that he would take a 12-month sabbatical from the game. Ancelotti is set to undergo a back operation in Canada this summer and he says that he needs to rest.

Despite that, AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi wanted to bring Ancelotti back to the club where he enjoyed tremendous success, winning 2 Champions Leagues and a Italian league title. Berlusconi sent his CEO Adriano Galliani to Madrid to talk with Ancelotti about a possible move to replace Filippo Inzaghi as AC manager.

Ancelotti earlier admitted that he was undecided and that the chances of him heading back to the Guiseppe Meazza were 50-50, but on Tuesday, he posted a tweet on his official account, rejecting the move saying he needs to rest.

Even after Ancelotti’s rejection, AC Milan are still expected to sack Inzaghi after yet another disappointing season for the Rossoneri with them managing only a 10th place finish in the Serie A.

Other possible replacements are Sevilla’s Unai Emery, ex-Sampdoria coach Siniša Mihajlović and former Milan midfielder and current Parma coach, Roberto Donadoni.
