The three-time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka was ousted by the young Russian qualifier, Andrey Rublev in his second match of the Western & Southern Open 2019. Rublev won 6-4, 6-4 against Wawrinka and sets up his next match against another Swiss, Roger Federer. The tennis fans were expecting the battle of the Helvetians on the Mason court, but a budding tennis player from Russia takes Wawrinka’s spot.

Rublev played two tough matches before he entered the second round of the tournament and yesterday in Cincinnati, Wawrinka played a grueling match against the Bulgarian, Grigor Dimitrov.

In the first set, Stan Wawrinka dropped his serve and that aided Rublev to get hold of the opening set against the former World Number three tennis player. The Swiss had chances to break the 21-year-old’s serve, but failing to convert those break points Wawrinka was trailing by a break in the entire set.

In a jiffy, Wawrinka served out his game for a 4-3 scoreline. The skillful service games by Andrey gave a tough time to Stan Wawrinka and the Russian won his first-ever second round in Cincinnati. After spoiling the battle of Helvetians in Ohio, Rublev will meet Roger Federer in his first-ever third-round match at the Ohio Masters 2019.

Wawrinka had five break chances in the match and was unsuccessful in converting all of them, Rublev just came across two in the entire match which was one in each set and seizing them with smart tennis, he sealed a 6-4, 6-4 victory against the tennis adept.
