Arsene Wenger Gave His Life For Arsenal- Sagna

Arsene Wenger’s unceremonious departure from Arsenal was “a bit harsh”, says Bacary Sagna. He said that the players are strangely considered to be working harder under Unai Emery, for some reason.

After 22 years of Wenger-football in north London, the Gunners decided to wipe the slate clean and start afresh over the summer. Arsene Wenger was finally moved out and Emery was drafted in, with a new approach, and fresh tactics required after a drop out of the Premier League’s top four.

The new manager at the helm, has helped to restore a sense of optimism and swagger around the loyal Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal on a menacing 16-game unbeaten run.  Bacary Sagna, who is a former star at the gunners, believes players are giving much more under the current regime than they did under the previous one.

Sagna, who spent seven odd years working under Arsene Wenger during his time with the Gunners, revealed in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports  – “It is strange. From one year to another, it is totally crazy”, he said. “They enjoyed the summer to clear their minds and come back stronger. It seems like they give even more on the pitch and it is working for them. I am so happy to see the club back to its best.”

He also spoke about the final ,moments of Wenger’s career, when even the supporters had started to boycott their own club’s matches. “Arsenal is in my heart, it is my club”, says Sagna. “I was a bit sad to see them struggling the way they did the past two years. I was sad to see Arsene Wenger leaving when he did. He gave his life for the club. It can’t always be perfect and people were a bit harsh with him. Arsenal became Arsenal because of him. He was the man”, said Sagna heaping praise on the ex-manager. However he says he is happy to see the team back to winning ways, and is excited for the new times. “But now I am happy because the players are happy and they seem to be sticking to the project”, he said.

Arsenal opened the 2018-19 campaign with back-to-back defeats against premier league giants Manchester City and Chelsea, leading to more questions on their ability to compete with the very best.Since then however, they have been brilliant, and have made impressive progress through Premier League, as well as Carabao Cup and in the Europa League competition. Arsenal will see a return to domestic action on Sunday when they travel to Bournemouth, with the possibility that Emery’s side could move back into the top four if other results go their way.
