Steve Smith, the hero of the Ashes 2019, also has a great sense of humour. Smith, who scored a whopping 774 runs in 7 innings, including a double-century in the fourth Test and twin tons in the first Test. Although Australia retained the Ashes, they lost the fifth and final Test by 135 runs at the Kennington Oval, London. It was during that test that Smith scored 23 off 53, his lowest score in the series.

England bowlers found it difficult to dismiss Smith in the whole campaign where Jofra Archer’s deadly bouncer hit him on the uncovered area of his neck during the third Test. Although he fell down on the ground at that time, he batted later. But a late concussion made him out of the game. After returning, he scored a double century.

However, in the second innings of the fifth game, Smith shuffled way too early, even before the ball was delivered, and Broad gave it slightly bodyline. The delivery was short, into the ribs, and Ben Stokes made no mistake in grabbing it at the leg-slip.

However, during the press conference, Tim Paine spoke about Smith’s dismissal and his hilarious reaction while Steve Smith was sitting right there with him. He jokingly asked Smith whether he could think about the matter that England finally got him at leg-slip.

Without waiting for Steve Smith’s reply, Paine shared how Smith reacted.

“You (Steve Smith) sort of sat there for a bit. I won’t say the very first bit and then he sat there for another 10 seconds and said ‘oh well if I get out there at least for the next however long, they’ll start bowling at my hip, so that’s a good thing,” said Paine.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith also reacted on the incident.

“They’ve had that position a bit for me. I’ve always felt if you hit one there it’s kind of unlucky in a way and it just takes a catcher out of somewhere else, so go for your life,” added Smith.

Be it on the field or off the field, Ashes 2019 has undoubtedly entertained, everyone.
